As a four-year-old, he was fascinated by the chess pieces and began playing for fun. Noticing the child’s interest, father Mrinal Ghosh thought the game would be part of son Aronyak’s life.

The 22-year-old from Kolkata has come a long way since those toddler days and a couple of days ago became India’s 95th Grandmaster after tying for the top place at the Bangkok Chess Club Open.

Though it took him a while to secure the third and final norm to achieve the title, Aronyak said he’s relieved to have become a GM and has set his sights on reaching the 2600 Elo mark (currently 2533).
