Sumit Nagal was knocked out in the second round of the ATP Delhi Open on Thursday (February 19, 2026) after being outplayed by 18-year-old Italian Federico Cina at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Complex. The 28-year-old lost 4-6, 4-6 in one hour and 40 minutes.

Cina, whose father Francesco has coached 2015 U.S. Open women’s singles runner-up Roberta Vinci, broke Nagal in the opening game of the first set and maintained his advantage. In the second set, the youngster from Palermo raced to a 5-1 lead. With a small gathering of fans spurring on Nagal, the local favourite found another gear all of a sudden to narrow the gap. But the sixth seed from Italy held his nerve and serve when the score was 5-4 to close out the encounter.

“I am very happy about this win,” Cina, who couldn’t make it past the qualifying stage of the 2025 US Open and 2026 Australian Open, said later. “Nagal is a tough player. He was also playing at home, so it was difficult. The crowd was getting excited. It was tough, but I served well in the last game.”
