Specially-abled children enjoyed a helicopter ride on Valentine’s Day in Pune by OYE Foundation
Pune: In a heartwarming gesture of inclusion and compassion, OYE Foundation, in association with Mahalaxmi Aviation, organised a helicopter ride for 35 specially-abled children on Valentine’s Day, offering many of them their first experience of flying. The initiative was led by the foundation’s founder & chairman, Dr. Simran Jethwani, with support from Nitin Gote & pilot Nitin Welde of Mahalaxmi Aviation. As the helicopter gently lifted off, the children waved excitedly and gazed down at the city below, thrilled to see roads, trees, vehicles, and people appear tiny from above. Some expressed amazement, while others became emotional, calling the ride a dream fulfilled. The six-minute aerial experience turned into a memorable moment not just for the participants but also for their families and the volunteers present.Dr. Jethwani said the aim was to create an experience the children would cherish for a lifetime. She added that such initiatives go beyond celebration and send a message that persons with disabilities deserve not sympathy but opportunities, dignity, and encouragement. “Their smiles told us everything — the effort was worth it,” she said.Nitin Gote of Mahalaxmi Aviation said the team readily agreed when approached for the initiative. “It is deeply satisfying to see the joy on their faces. Small efforts like this can spread a strong message of inclusivity in society,” he noted.Participants thanked the organisers for the unique opportunity, saying the aerial view was “beautiful and unforgettable.” Organisers said they hope to conduct more such initiatives in the future, reinforcing that simple acts of kindness can inspire communities and uplift lives.
