With the Madhyamik Pariksha (SE) 2026 less than a week away, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has announced a one-time, 24-hour emergency enrollment window for eligible Class 10 students who were denied registration due to lapses by their schools. The online portal opened at 12 noon on January 27 and will close at 12 noon on January 28. The Madhyamik examinations are scheduled to begin on February 2.The decision follows reports from several secondary schools admitting that they had failed to complete the enrollment process in time, leaving a number of students without registration and admit cards. In its notification, WBBSE said the move was taken “in the greater interest of the students” to ensure that eligible candidates are not barred from appearing in the board examinations because of institutional dereliction.

Eligibility limited to students meeting academic and attendance norms

According to the board, the special provision applies only to candidates who have passed the Class 10 test examination and maintained a minimum attendance of 70% in Classes 9 and 10. Enrollment must be completed strictly through the concerned schools using the WBBSE portal.“This one-time concession is being offered to students who have passed Class 10 and maintained a minimum attendance of 70% in Classes 9 and 10 but were denied enrollment due to errors or negligence during the enrollment process at their schools,” the WBBSE notice said.Schools have been instructed to strictly follow the prescribed procedure and facilitate genuine candidates without delay.

Schools responsible for documentation and fee submission

WBBSE has placed operational responsibility squarely on schools. Institutions must complete online enrollment, download the enrollment report, get it signed by the concerned student, countersigned by the Head of Institution, and submit the original documents to the board. The paperwork, along with applicable fees and late fines, must be submitted at Nivedita Bhawan in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Payments will be accepted only in cash or through UPI. The board has made it clear that all submissions and collections must be completed within the stipulated time frame. For students who successfully enroll during this emergency window, admit cards and Annual School Reports (ASR) will be issued on January 29. Collection will take place at the WBBSE Examination Section on the third floor of Nivedita Bhawan between 1 pm and 5 pm.

Board signals tough action against erring institutions

Beyond the immediate relief for students, the board has issued a strong warning to schools responsible for the lapses.WBBSE said it will “take appropriate steps, in due course, as per applicable Rule upon all such schools to fix responsibility and take disciplinary action accordingly,” stressing that omissions creating hardship for students and jeopardising their academic future will not be allowed to recur. The notification has been issued with the approval of the President of the Ad-hoc Committee, WBBSE, and institutions have been directed to treat the matter as urgent. While the emergency window offers a narrow lifeline to affected students, the episode has raised serious questions about administrative accountability at the school level. With board examinations days away, the board’s intervention underscores both the vulnerability of students to procedural failures and the need for stricter oversight to prevent similar crises in future examination cycles.Candidates can check the official notice as provided here.
