The Government of Assam has released the official notification for Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026. The exam is being conducted as a Special Assam TET to fill teaching gaps in schools that follow regional language mediums. This TET is meant for candidates who want to become teachers at the Lower Primary (Classes 1 to 5) and Upper Primary (Classes 6 to 8) levels. The application process will be conducted fully online. The application process has started January 7, 2026 onwards at the official portal. The last date to submit the application form is February 7, 2026. Candidates must meet the required educational qualifications and should be permanent residents of Assam. This exam is only an eligibility test and does not guarantee a teaching job.

Special Assam TET important dates

The Assam TET 2026 notification was issued on January 6, 2026. Online applications started on January 7, and the registration window will remain open till February 7, 2026. How to apply online

The application process includes registration, filling in personal and academic details, uploading documents, and paying the examination fee.

  1. Visit the official website sebaonline.org or ssa.assam.gov.in.
  2. Click on the Assam TET 2026 application link.
  3. Register using your basic details.
  4. Log in with the registration credentials.
  5. Fill in personal and educational information carefully.
  6. Upload your photograph, signature, and required documents.
  7. Select the paper you want to apply for.
  8. Pay the application fee online.
  9. Submit the application form.
  10. Download and save the confirmation page.

Direct link to apply here.The fee for General category candidates is Rs 550 per paper. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and MOBC categories need to pay Rs 450, while PwD candidates need to pay Rs 300. Those applying for both Paper I and Paper II must pay the fee separately for each paper. The fee once paid will not be refunded.

Eligibility criteria and pattern for Special Assam TET

To apply for Paper I (Classes 1 to 5), candidates must have passed Senior Secondary with a Diploma in Elementary Education or B.El.Ed, as per NCTE norms. For Paper II (Classes 6 to 8), candidates should have a graduation degree along with B.Ed, D.El.Ed, or integrated teaching courses. Candidates must be permanent residents of Assam. Reserved category candidates are given relaxation in minimum marks as per government rules.Both papers will be conducted in offline mode and will consist of multiple-choice questions. Each paper will be held for 2 hours and 30 minutes and will carry 150 marks. There is no negative marking. The question paper will include Child Development and Pedagogy, languages, and subject-based questions.

Qualifying marks and validity

The Special Assam TET 2026 has been introduced mainly for regional language medium schools, including Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar. Candidates must score 60 per cent marks to qualify. For reserved categories, the minimum qualifying marks are lower as per norms.The TET certificate will be valid for life. However, qualifying the exam does not ensure appointment as a teacher. Recruitment will be done separately by the state education department as and when vacancies are announced. Candidates are advised to read the official notification carefully before applying.
